DescriptionFor this assignment, I was instructed to create 5 panoramic photos by taking a series of images and editing them in photoshop. I focused on landscapes and nature for this project. Here are the results: ReflectionI really enjoyed taking these photos. I'm accustomed to using my phone for panoramic photography so it was interesting to see how photos actually get spliced together. I had some minor difficulties figuring out how to properly use a tripod and edit the pictures, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

DescriptionFor my second shooting assignment, I chose to do black and white photography. I was instructed to take 50-100 pictures of subjects that would pop with a black and white filter. Best PhotoMy best photo is a picture of a hill in my neighborhood. I think the contrast between the white snow and the dark trees and fence is what makes this image stand out from the rest. ISO: 100 Aperture: 2.7 Shutter Speed: 1/1600 I edited this picture by applying a black and white filter, increasing the brightness, and adjusting the contrast. ReflectionOverall I really enjoyed this week's shooting assignment. I didn't feel as limited in my selection of subjects as I felt last week and I like how my photos turned out. It was fun finding things both indoors and outdoors to take pictures of, and it was exciting to envision how my photos could be enhanced by a black and white filter. I struggled somewhat again with lighting cause I wanted to make sure none of my photos were too dark, just in case the black and white would cause them to look more dull. When I started editing them, however, the lighting wasn't much of a problem because I could turn up the brightness and play around with the levels in photoshop.
For my second shooting assignment I've decided to do black and white. I'm excited for this one because black and white photography is one of my favorite types of photography. Also, I think it should be fairly easy to find things to photograph because this category isn't limited to a single subject. Here are some examples I'm hoping to base my pictures off of: I chose these images as inspiration because they each have a unique aspect of composition that help make the photo more interesting. I think that composition is very important in black and white photography because the absence of color has to be compensated for by the beauty and uniqueness of the subject. I hope to take some interesting pictures like these ones this week.
DescriptionFor this first photo assignment, I was instructed to select a topic and take 50-100 pictures of that topic. This week, I chose to capture food. I had to take a variety of pictures, utilizing different aspects of composition and incorporating creativity. The goal for food was to make my images look as delicious as possible. I think my best image achieves this goal: Technical DataShutter speed: 1/60 Aperture: f/2.7 ISO: 138 Best 5 Photos:ReflectionThis assignment was pretty fun for me because I enjoyed finding food to take pictures of and I like how most of them turned out. However, I did struggle with the lighting and I also had trouble finding the right background so that the food was the main focus of the picture. It took a lot of trial and error and I ended up experimenting with some colored lighting as you can see in the pictures of the sushi. Overall I enjoyed the experience and hope to find ways to improve my food photography in the future.
For my second experience with photo retouching, I selected a different photo to edit and enhance. This time, I chose a photo of two butterflies. I used many of the same tools from the first retouching assignment of the car, but I also utilized some new ones. For instance, I used hue and saturation to change the color of one of the butterflies in the image. Here is the original image compared to my edited version: Editing this picture was a much faster process than with the car because I was more familiar with the tools and how to manipulate them. I didn't have any major problems and had some fun getting creative with it this time.
For my second photoshop assignment, I was instructed to enhance the photo of a car using cropping, the clone tool, selection tools, levels, and layers in Adobe Photoshop. I was given a demo photo to duplicate. Here is the original photo compared to my edited version: ReflectionOverall, I did not have much difficulty completing this assignment; however, I realized that you have to be very precise and careful when using the clone stamp and quick selection tools. It took me a few tries with those to edit what I wanted. Other than that, I enjoyed this assignment and liked observing the impressive effect that photo retouching can have on an image.
For my first photo shooting assignment, I have decided to focus on the subject of FOOD. I am hoping to find creative ways to capture some delicious meals and make my photos look mouth-watering. I am planning on going to some restaurants in Ann Arbor to find some good food to capture. Here are some inspiration photos that I may base my work off of: I think that each of these photos used great composition techniques. I like the utilization of color and depth of field in each of the photos. I will attempt to approach this assignment with similar technique to make my photos look as delicious as these ones do.
Assignment DescriptionFor this assignment, I was instructed to follow a step-by-step process to create 2 pop art photos in Adobe Photoshop. I used layers, Guides, Resize Canvas, Threshold dialogs, and anchor layers to create these photos. Original PhotoPop Art #1Pop Art #2What I learnedOver the course of this assignment, I learned a lot about the basics of photoshop and how to use it to effectively manipulate an image. I struggled at first with some of the threshold dialogue but the more I used it the easier it was to manage. The ruler guides really helped me to position my photos on the canvas easily and I had a lot of fun getting creative with colors and effects for pop art #2.
For this particular assignment, I was instructed to take pictures using the eleven composition techniques we took notes on and learned about in class. We were required to showcase our best photo of each technique, making sure the method used to take the photo was easily identifiable. Here are my eleven best photo samples: Color = "Orange Flower"Perspective = "Blue Windows"Lines = "Lines Intersecting Sunrise"Rule of Thirds = "Girl Taking Photos of a BrickWall"Space = "Lonely American Flag"Framing = "Fireplace"Texture = "Dewy Grass"Pattern = "Wall of Awards"Balance = "Girl and Sunrise"Symmetry = "Flags in Hallway"Depth of Field = "Hallway"Reflection:Overall, I enjoyed this assignment. Some of my favorite techniques were color and perspective. I had a lot of fun discovering new angles to take pictures from. While some methods were more difficult than others to master, I feel that I now have a lot more constructive knowledge about composition.
Hello! My name is Anna Weaver and I am a senior at Saline High School. I have a loving family and a very old but very cute cat named paws. Some of my interests include running cross country, reading, hanging out with my friends, and shopping. I have never really experimented with digital photography before, so this blog serves to show my journey to become a better, more knowledgeable photographer. I took this class to expand my knowledge of the world of digital photography and to hopefully learn some skills that I can apply when I leave this class. It also doubles as a technology credit, so that was convenient for me as well.
